EXERCISES: Tom’s Weekly Tip
I’ve been wanting to start a weekly videos series for years to give all of our Total Gym customers some useful tips that they can implement immediately to improve your workouts. Here is my introduction and the first series of exercises below that. Enjoy!
Introduction
5 Minute Morning Workout
My goal is to provide at least one of these videos every week. Until next time…

Oh, I so wanted to see these videos, but when I click on them, there’s a message about them being private and that I have to accept the sender’s friend request. Help please?
Thank you!!
Those were good – lets see more. Thanks.
Thanks. I enjoyed the 5 minute workout. I’ll work that into my morning routine. Do you have any exercies for the inner and outer thigh and the behind? Thank you.
I’d love to see videos on workouts for the thighs and hips. Thanks.
This is awesome! these will really help me out. I recently started using a Total Gym so, I/m hoping for big things from it. I’m a Firefighter and need to get back into fighting weight
There use to be a video with the total gym with the Cinncinati Ohio Fire Department, I’d like to get my hands a copy!
Thanks Again,
Ken Beatrice

I purchased my first Total Gym in 1995. I am a cyclist which keeps me fit and trim from the waist down. While I lifted weights, I wanted some means to (like cycling) exercise aerobically with my upper body. The Total Gym allows that. Low incline and lots of reps gives my upper body and my heart/lungs a similar workout.
It might not be a bad idea to offer your version in your upcoming video.
Thanks,
Bob
Thanks…this is great!!
I have a shoulder problem and have been going to a physical therapist and accupunctureist to try and prevent surgery. Will the total gym help. I am curently using a band and very light 2 lb weights.
I HAVE HAD A TOTAL GYM FOR 15 YEARS . I HAVE TRIED WEIGHTS , BOWFLEX , ETC. BUT THE ONE I LIKE THE BEST IS TOTAL GYM . I JUST BOUGHT ME A NEW 14000 SERIES AN I JUST LOVE IT . I FOUND A BOOK OF BRUCE LEES CALLED ( THE ART OF EXPRESSING THE HUMAN BODY ) I HAVE BEEN CIRCUIT TRAINING NOW FOR ABOUT A MONTH USEING THIS BOOK AND MY TOTAL GYM I HAVE LOST 10 LBS. I FEEL GREAT AND MY WIFE SAYS I LOOK GREAT . I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD FEEL THIS GOOD DOING CIRCUIT TRAINING . I DO 12 EXERCISES IN A CIRCUIT. I DO TWO CIRCUITS PER EXERCISE WORKOUT. I DO DIFFERENT EXERCISES IN EACH CIRCUIT ONE FOR EACH BODY PART PER CIRCUIT . I DO 8-12 REPS PER EXERCISE IN CIRCUIT 1 . REST . THEN DO 8-12 EXERCISES IN CIRCUIT 2 . I DO ALL EXERCISES FOR EACH CIRCUIT AS FAST AS I CAN . MAYBE YOU COULD HAVE A SERIES ON CIRCUIT TRAINING !
Tom asked for suggestions about exercises, body areas, etc. I would like to see recommendations for hips and knees and for upper and lower back/spine.
Excellent extra motivation. I will look forward to these each week. I’ve had the GTS system for 2 years now in my home and it has been the quickest most thorough machine I’ve ever had. My teenagers jump on it all the time for workouts and have even begun following some of the DVD’s. Whenever their friends come over they are blown away by the workout they can get. Thanks for all you are doing!!!
Hi RT,
Yes, the Total Gym is actually used at more than 12,000 rehab facilities around the country. It has been used for almost 30 years at physical therapist offices. If your therapist doesn’t have a Total Gym you can send him here to get one: http://www.efisportsmedicine.com/rehab/. Or, if you would like to located a rehab facilities that has a Total Gym you can visit this site to find one: http://www.efisportsmedicine.com/about/efi-network/. I hope that helps and best of luck with your shoulder problem. Hopefully you can avoid surgery. Thanks for your comment.
Tom
I exercise mainly for low back problems ! Rather constant.
Thanks,
Don
Can you do a workout with your thighs, abs, and arms?
I would like to see a workout geared toward larger chested women. I am a 32F, have constant back pain because it, and refuse to do any kind of reduction surgery. I would love to know exactly what exercises I need to do to strengthen my body so the pain will go away.
I’VE BEEN USING THE TOTAL GYM FOR ABOUT FIVE YEARS AND LOVE IT. THE ONLY EXCESS WEIGHT I HAVE NOW IS AROUND THE MIDDLE AREA. I KNOW I NEED TO CUT BACK ON CARBS, BUT ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC EXERCISES TO HELP WITH THIS AREA. I’M ALREADY DOING ALL I KNOW TO DO, BUT THE EXTRA ROLL IS STILL THERE.
i have been a total gym user for about 15 years i actually have the west bend model used in some therapy offices.i have added all the bells and whistles including pull up bar, squat stand, preacher bench and weight bars,LOVE the machine i am 53 years old in great shape and a volunteer firefighter for 19 years in better shapr than most younger members.I think video series and blog great ideas thanks
Great reminder that I can do a lot on the Total Gym even if I have only a few minutes…thank you!
This is great, please let us know when you post new videos!
Nice work Tom, but be careful…not so close to the pool!
Suzanne
I just found your website for the first time. It is great and has motivated me to get back to using my TOTAL GYM.
I recently got a severe knee sprain so I will be getting back into using the TG slowly. Look forward to it.
Ned
Hi Everybody,
Thanks so much for all the suggestions and for expressing how much you like your Total Gyms. We have included your requests for our next video shoot. We are really looking forward to getting those filmed and out for you to see.
Also, if you haven’t already, it would be great if you could stop by our Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/totalgym to become a fan and maybe even leave a comment about how you use your Total Gym.
Thanks again and talk to you soon.
Tom
help, i’d love to be able to use the foot harness for leg exercises but don’t know a safe way to put on and get into position…
It’s good to see you demonstrating some of the exercises that I haven’t done in a while, or that I just haven’t done at all. I am a consistent user, but I tend to concentrate more on adding weight for squats and toe raises. These reminders by e-mail come in handy and will help me to vary my workouts more.
Wondered if you could show some slow/ super slow exercises? I have been usingy 14000 since September and have been eating better. I have lost 24 pounds to date. Great machine, I’m also purchasing 3 more accessories.
Hi Tom, Since i have gotten the TotoalGym 14000, it seems to be a very expensive dust collector at the present time. My torso is to long than my head and buttoks do NOT fit on the board, when I lay on my back, all at the same time, making this piece of equipment tool very UNuseful to me. Do you have any suggestions?
Hi Mary Ann,
Here’s a great video to help you get in and out safely out of the Leg Pulley system. Hope this helps: http://www.efisportsmedicine.com/home/product-line/accessories/leg-pulley-system.htm

Little D,
I know it can be confusing about where to start if you’re new to Total Gym and/or exercise in general. I would suggest visiting our online Total Gym exercise library where you can find a variety of Total Gym exercises to do at home: http://www.efisportsmedicine.com/home/education/exercise-library/. Just click on an exercise and a graphic box will pop up showing you on what to do. If you prefer to watch a video demonstration, our Total Gym YouTube page has a variety of exercise videos for you to choose from: http://www.youtube.com/user/totalgym. Once you have an idea of the many exercises you can do on your Total Gym, consider writing out a workout plan designed to target the whole body on multiple days, or different body parts on separate days – for example upper body one day, then lower body the next. Having a workout schedule has always helped me stay on track. The Total Gym is really all you need to help reach your fitness goals! This is not to be perceived as medical, diet or weight loss advice. Best of luck!
Cheers,
Tom
