Boomers Put More Boogey in Their Step, Beware of "Boomeritis"

Cassie here with your healthy dose of “Fitness Wisdom Wednesday!”

This week’s post is about “Boomeritis” (yes, it’s an actual word). Here’s an article that I recently wrote for San Diego News Network on how active baby boomers can prevent the onset of boomeritis as they age:

They dominate this country’s society – 78 million in the U.S., making up nearly one-third of our nation’s population, according to the Census Bureau.

They are the baby boomers — an influential and burgeoning demographic of late 40-year-old to 60-somethings born during the World War II birth rate boom lasting from 1946 through about 1964.

While baby boomers are upping their activity as a preventative measure to combat chronic health issues, their increased physical regimen may come at a price.

Sports Injuries – Tough It Out or Rest?

I came across an article on sports injuries on the New York Times website today and felt compelled to share it as a victim of a few sports injuries myself.

I find I’m a little too passionate about the sports I do – whether it’s running, swimming, playing tennis or weight training – and I tend to overtrain, which often results in injuries. You’d think if you’re being more active it’s a good thing, but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing and wind up hurt in the process.

The "GRAVITY Experiment" on Total Gym

For today’s “Fitness Wisdom Wednesday,” I wanted to share a real person’s journey to weight loss on Total Gym.

Jessie Carter is a physical therapist and owner of High Pointe Rehab out of Clarksville, TN. The 33-year-old mother of three purchased a Total Gym PowerTower, a motorized, commercial version of the Total Gym, in November to use with her patients. But she also saw the value in the using the PowerTower to lose her college 15 (15 years later)!

GRAVITY.123.cmy.WEBJessie recently completed one of our Total Gym GRAVITY training courses, which, for those who don’t know, GRAVITY is the fitness programming for Total Gym. She began to implement new GRAVITY exercises with her patients and she also decided to try them out herself — and blog about it!

For 60 days, Jessie is charting her weight loss journey, which she has coined the “GRAVITY Experiment.”

I thought some of you may be inspired by Jessie’s story, so here’s a link to her blog http://jessiecarter.wordpress.com/ to follow along at your leisure – and maybe even offer some words of encouragement along the way.

If you want to start your own “GRAVITY Experiment” on your Total Gym at home, sign up to join GRAVITYClubhouse today. Membership is free and you can gain access to the latest GRAVITY workout DVDs, an exercise library, and, for fitness professionals, find a GRAVITY training course in your area!

Total Gym wishes you luck with your GRAVITY experiment, Jessie!
