Total Gym Training with Joel Mackes
Total Gym trainer Joel Mackes, of Newport Beach, CA, demos his favorite bodyweight training exercises on the new Total Gym PowerTower. Using the adjustable LAT bars on the PowerTower, Joel demonstrates pull-ups and reverse flys to keep the upper body fit and functional.
Don’t have LAT bars on your Total Gym? Just use the 3Grip Pull-up Bar for Total Gym 14000, 26000 and the new Sport model or the Wing Attachment for Total Gym XLS, as seen on TV.
Accessories can help advance your Total Gym workouts over time. Browse our lineup of accessories – from the Weight Bar, allowing for the addition of weight plates on the glideboard, to the Cyclo Trainer, to add cardio training to your strength routine: http://www.efisportsmedicine.com/commercial/product-line/accessories/3grip-pull-up-bar.htm.

One think I’m concerned about with these new TG models is that the rollers are concealed inside the aluminum rails, which I must assume removed the ability to add extra weights to the TG. In my own workouts on my old TG, I find that adding extra weight becomes necessary within a couple of months of starting a workout regimen, at least for a good number of the exercises, in order to maintain challenging workouts. Is there a way that is not readily discernible for extra weight to be added to these new TGs? If not, I certainly hope that models that allow this be kept in the product line, particularly the 26000, (which I still to purchase one day when circumstances permit).
Hi Robert,
You ask a great question. Our new Total Gym Sport, GTS and PowerTower models do feature a new, larger glideboard with concealed wheels. This design allows for a smoother, quieter gliding experience. The beauty of these new units is that you can still add the Weight Bar accessory by inserting it into hooks at the top of the glideboard. It’s simple! This feature has certainly not gone away. We will still be producing 26000s and we offer affordable payment plans when the time is right to buy. Thanks for your loyalty to Total Gym!
Cheers,
Tom C
Tom, thank you for your reassuring comments that the ability to add weights to the glideboards has been kept with these new models. I would have hated to see this important functionality lost as the TG was redesigned in other ways.
I have used my TG for about a dozen years. After a long period of regular use, I gradually let my workouts fall by the wayside as I became busier with other things in my life. I recently re-committed to regular workouts on the TG and am maintaining mostly daily use. I am fairly quickly regaining some of the increased strength and muscularity I had previously gained in using TG–and then gradually lost when I stopped my workouts. I have a little way to go to get to where I was, but then again, exercise is a lifetime activity, so I’ll get there. In addition, I broke my wrist last year and without even doing any exercises specifically focused on my wrist, just doing the more general all-body exercises, I am regaining lost strength and range of motion in my wrist that even several months of PT and a year of healing had not completely brought back.
Thank you for making what I consider one of the best products I have ever purchased. It has certainly lived up to every promise made for it, and is well-made, sturdy and durable…a quality product!
Robert,
Thanks for sharing your success story and passion for Total Gym! We love to hear such inspiring stories.
