Hi everyone. This is Cassie Piercey and I’m the marketing communications manager for Total Gym and the GRAVITY program. I had the honor of meeting two very inspiring people last week at Project Walk Spinal Cord Injury Recovery in Carlsbad, CA. I was there on behalf of Total Gym to watch a taping of “Inside Edition,” who was covering Project Walk client Rachelle Friedman’s rehab after suffering a devastating injury at her bachelorette party nearly 2 years ago. You may have heard of Rachelle’s story on the TODAY Show, CNN Headline News and on ABC News.
Thanks to the help of Walking with Anthony, Rachelle has been given the opportunity to travel from North Carolina to Carlsbad to progress her rehabilitation at Project Walk in hopes of eventually living free of the wheelchair. Walking with Anthony is a foundation established by the family of spinal cord injury victim, Anthony, in order to raise awareness of the impact of spinal cord injury and to provide financial assistance to spinal cord injury victims that do not have the funds to pay for the expensive recovery.
At Project Walk, Rachelle uses the Total Gym PowerTower, a motorized incline bodyweight trainer, to regain her core strength, allowing trainers to position her at an incline to challenge her core stability and eventually progress her to doing leg exercises like you see Anthony doing in the photo below:
I was extremely moved by both Anthony and Rachelle’s dedication and motivation. It’s amazing to see how far they’ve both come since their accidents. Last summer, Rachelle wed her now husband, Chris. Despite her paralysis, Rachelle was still able to wear the original wedding gown she had chosen prior to the accident. Read more about Rachelle’s progress, in which Total Gym is refereced as her “home gym” here.
