Founded in 1974, he developed the Total Gym incline bodyweight trainer, a high-quality fitness machine that uses a person’s own bodyweight as resistance and encourages the use of multiple muscle groups together in each exercise—now referred to as “functional training.”
Originally developed as a fitness product, Campanaro’s company noticed a significant portion of their sales were to physical therapists, which helped expand their sales market into the physical therapy rehabilitation and wellness industries as well.
Recognizing a need to bring fitness to home consumers, Campanaro partnered with American Telecast to further extended Total Gym’s reach in 1996 with what is today, the longest running broadcast infomercial in history. The infomercial helped propel Total Gym to cult status with over 4 million users and over 1.5 billion dollars’ worth of Total Gyms sold through the infomercial and in retail stores in over 85 countries.
Now with commercial partners in 23 countries, Total Gym continues to lead the industry with innovative functional and bodyweight training products, in addition to its award-winning GRAVITYSystem® commercial fitness program that is currently offered worldwide.
In an industry with over 500,00 employees and approximately 30,000 businesses (according to IBIS Worlds’s Gym, Health & Fitness Clubs market research.), Campanaro has made Total Gym a household name and with it, has helped inspire over 24 million workouts per year worldwide.
